Step 2 - Developing the research question in the Lesson Study Group

  • Problem area: Students have a limited repertoire of learning strategies: teachers may not be teaching learning strategies like metacognition.
  • The Question: Will instruction in metacognition help students use more learning strategies?

  • Problem area: Students don't seem to be able to visualize mathematics problems.
  • The Question: Will more work with visualization of mathematical relationships help students solve fraction problems?

  • Problem area- Students are not critical about the data they generate using software applications.
  • The Question- How can we teach students to be critical users of technology generated information and to test their results? What impact will this have on student learning?
