|Wanda Bulger-Tamez, Project Director
Dr. Wanda Bulger-Tamez has been working with the MC² team for 19 years! She has served in the New Mexico Science and Math Initiative and has taught elementary, middle school, and developmental Algebra and currently teaches Math 111 (Math for Elementary Teachers) at NMSU. Wanda loves partnering with teachers and school leaders to create systems for strengthening children’s math learning.

|Kathe Kanim, Mathematics Education Specialist
Kathe Kanim earned a Master’s in Mathematics and her scope of work includes providing support for secondary mathematics teachers in several districts across the state. She attended one year of high school in Germany and brings teaching experiences from multiple states.
Ask her about: connecting algebra and geometry, uncovering students’ mathematics thinking and reasoning, the five strategies for emerging bilingual students, and reading Spanish novels
|Lisa Matthews, Mathematics Education Specialist
Lisa Matthews first joined the NMSU math grant known as MathStar, which later became MC2. She has taught Astronomy and Physics in a diverse, high-needs school district on the border between New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico. Lisa has strong interests in mathematics learning and teaching in K-12 and beyond, and has been involved with co-planning and co-facilitating all MC² summer professional learning workshops.

|Michelle Sterling-Rodriguez, Mathematics Education Specialist
Michelle Sterling-Rodriguez is involved in this work because she has a desire for the children of New Mexico to have a vision of the opportunities that exist here as well as the outside world. She does not want mathematics to be the reason a child does not have access to this choice. Michelle believes her MC2 work creates more and more meaningful math opportunities for children.

|Megan Kidwell, Mathematics Education Specialist
Megan Kidwell joined MC2 in 2015. Her background is in early numeracy and she has a wealth of knowledge to share with teachers about how elementary students develop concepts of number. Meagan was a numeracy specialist in Albuquerque and works with various school districts across New Mexico.

|Lydia Medrano, Accountant
Lydia Medrano earned an MBA with a minor in Finance and has over 20 years of experience in the accounting field, both domestic and international. Her bilingual ability in English and Spanish serves her well in this border community. She is currently preparing for her CPA certification. Lydia is responsible for all budget reconciliation and serves as the human resources liaison for the MC2 program.

|Crystal Chavez, Program Coordinator
Crystal Chavez joined our team from the College of Education dean’s office and serves as office manager. She is responsible for coordinating events and travel for MC2 staff and participants. Crystal is in charge of preparing stipends, reimbursements, purchase orders, and maintaining inventory of supplies and office equipment.

|Terri Sainz, K-12 Outreach Specialist
Terri Sainz has K-12 teaching experience in New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado. She has also served as a school and district-level administrator. Terri coordinates professional learning events, online meetings, webinar/video productions, and presentation/publications. Her role is essential in providing network opportunities for teachers and school leaders.

|Sara Morales, Sr. Program Manager
Sara Morales has a Bachelors in Education with a TESOL endorsement and a Masters in Teaching Mathematics. She has taught in diverse settings including New Mexico, Florida, and Hawaii. Sara oversees research activities by analyzing the learning environments in K-12 classrooms among other methods. Her responsibilities include supporting professional learning and leadership development, accountability reports, dissemination of data, and writing.
